Description

Welcome to Mrs. Collins’ Language Arts III class! I am looking forward to working with you to make this year a successful one. I want to make sure that we get off to a good start so please pay close attention to the following items.

 Grading Policy

Grades are based on in-class work, homework, essays, quizzes, class projects, and unit exams. Each assignment will have a point value. Students are responsible for their own work. Grades are available through the district’s Aeries program online. Students should check their grades online. Printouts are available upon request. Extra credit will be offered temporarily. However, it will not comprise more than 2% of the grade.

Homework

I will assign homework 2-3 times per week.  Late homework will not be accepted. If you are absent, please turn the homework in on the day that you return. You have a week to make up any missed work.

Tests/Unit Projects

We will have a test and/or a unit project at the end of every unit. This will add up to approximately 25% of your grade. We will also have vocabulary quizzes weekly.

Final Assessment

At the end of every semester there will be a final assessment test. It is 10% of your total grade.

SSR Requirement

SSR stands for Silent Sustained Reading. We will all read our own books in class for 15 minutes on Mondays.

  1. Bring in a book or magazine to class every Monday.  If you do not bring something to read, you lose your points for the day.
  2. Make sure that the book or magazine is appropriate for reading in class.
  3. You must participate in order to receive credit.

Absent Center

If you are absent, please make sure that you make up your work. I will post what we did in class on a board titled “Absent Center.” There will be a folder on the board with extra copies of assignments that you missed. I expect that you will make up all work and that you will neatly add the missed notebook assignments to your notebook/Table of Contents. Make sure that when you are absent, you leave space to make up the work in your notebook so that all of your assignments are in the correct order.

If you have missed a test or quiz, please see me immediately so that we can arrange a time for you to make it up.

If you are going to be absent because of a planned activity, please tell me ahead of time! I will give you your assignments early!

Late Work

Homework turned in over a week after you returned from your absence, will not be accepted. If it is a long-term assignment, such as an essay or project, it is due on the assigned day whether or not you are here. Please remember that you can EMAIL me, [email protected] with your assignment attached or you can turn it in ahead of time. After the deadline, you can still turn in the project for up to 70% of the total credit.
