No one knew it at the time but January 24, 1966, was the day that a “Tradition of Excellence” was conceived.  That was the day that the name “Esperanza” was chosen for the third high school in the district. 3007 days later on Friday, April 19, 1974, that tradition became reality when students made their way from Valencia High School, walked onto campus and became Aztecs for the very first time. It was on April 22, 1974, the first day of classroom instruction, that the path toward academic and athletic excellence became the pinnacle of achievement for the Aztec community. From the athletic accomplishments of women’s tennis winning the school’s first CIF title in 1976 to the academic and performing arts accomplishments of over 24,000 graduates, the mantra of “Once an Aztec, Always an Aztec” has been the one constant throughout the years. Each archived yearbook will give you a window into the past of this great high school - the high school that will be enhanced by your contributions.
