As you know, the AJROTC program is a valued part of Esperanza’s campus. Over the years, we have all witnessed our cadets gain a deeper understanding of the field of aerospace and participate in activities such as trips to military bases, drill team competitions, color and honor guards, and much more. The students in this program have made us all proud as they have represented Esperanza through tradition and excellence across our campus and in the local community.

We are pleased to share that we have hired a highly qualified instructor to lead our program—Sergeant First Class (SFC) David Eric Mangiardi. Originally from Anaheim, SFC Mangiardi joined the Army in September 2001 and has a myriad of experience both stateside and abroad. He was deployed on three tours in Iraq and two in South Korea and served as a recruiter, coach, and trainer in various locations across the country. After two decades of active service, and many awards and achievements, SFC Mangiardi retired from active duty in 2021. Once retired, he, his wife Alea, and their four daughters made the move back home to California.

When asked about this opportunity, SFC Mangiardi shared that he is excited to become a part of our Aztec family. He brings over 20 years of military experience in leadership, training, mentoring, and coaching hundreds of soldiers under his guidance. His start date will be on Monday, December 18, and he will continue to be joined by Kelly Alfaro, who has been dedicated to leading our AFJROTC program since the start of the last school year. Ms. Alfaro will remain on staff to support SFC Mangiardi and our Army JROTC program through the rest of the school year. We are grateful for her continued service to our students.
