Chromebook and Other Device Information

All students should have a district issued PYLUSD Chromebook for all or certain tasks school tasks, per district one-to-one student to policy. There are some tests for which only a district Chromebook will work.

Always bring your PYLUSD Chromebook fully charged and ready for school use. This is preparation for a successful academic and professional career.

Possible Solutions to common Chromebook problems:

Problem:

Chromebook will not work without being plugged in.

Solution:

Dormant Chromebooks must be plugged in for 5-15 minutes to reactivate the battery. If a Chromebook is not used for a month or so, the battery can become dormant. Then it may not initially work without being plugged in.

SAMSUNG Chromebook Problem:

Chromebook has startup / battery issues:

Solution:

- Hold the power (start) key down for 20 seconds

- Press the power (start) key down again to restart.

Problem:

Chromebook has startup or other issues:

Solution:

- Press the refresh key (circle with an arrow) and hold

Tap the start key

- Press the refresh key and hold for five seconds

Tap the start key

- Press the refresh key and hold for ten seconds

Tap the start key

Problem:

Touchpad is not performing well

Solution:

Adjust the touchpad speed:

1. Click on Settings

2. Click on Device

3. Click on Touchpad

4. Click on Increase Speed

Problem:

Any general issue of poor performance

Solution:

Update the Chrome browser:

1. Click on the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the webpage.

2. Click on Settings, 3rd from the bottom of the menu

3. Click on About Chrome at the bottom of the left menu.

4. Click on To see if your device is up to date – go to Chrome OS Settings

5. Click on the Check for updates box and follow further instructions.
