Medical Sciences Academy

Welcome to Esperanza's Medical Sciences Academy. I'm looking forward to another fantastic year as we explore a variety of healthcare careers. The classes offered this year will be Medical Careers (another ROP teacher is now teaching this class) which is the beginning class of the MSA pathway. In Med Careers you will learn basic medical terminology, body systems, vital signs, infection control, CPR, professionalism and much more. Our next level is Body Systems & Disorders, which is Pathophysiology (diseases related with the body systems), and it is a D-Laboratory Science Elective class. Medical Assisting Clinical & Administrative, is our capstone class. This is a class for seniors who have successfully completed either Med Careers and BS&D. Students will be able to perform MA skills including venipuncture, ECG and injections.

A little about me: I have "over 28 years" experience in the medical field with an emphasis as a Medical Assistant. I have been teaching for North Orange County Regional Occupation Program for over 19 years and have received my Designated Subjects Teaching Credential in Health Occupations through Cal State University, Long Beach.

I am also the advisor for our Esperanza HOSA Chapter (Future Health Professionals). This is a National Organization where students have an opportunity to compete in medically related events at the state and the national levels. Esperanza students have successfully represented our school throughout the past years, and they have been awarded several medals in a variety of medical competitions. Ask us how you can be a HOSA member.
