MSA Students In Action

2021 Pediatric Cancer Awareness Week

In recognition of September being Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, Esperanza's Medical Sciences Academy members are doing their part in bringing awareness to our community! A large portion of Esperanza's Health Occupations Students of America's (otherwise known as HOSA) activities brings community awareness to a multitude of pressing issues, whether it may be local or global.

For the week of September 27th, Esperanza's Medical Academy organized a school-wide awareness week covering pediatric cancer. Procuring immense participation and support from their school, Esperanza was able to make a significant impact in its community.

Esperanza's two main events were "Cardmaking for Kendra" and a "Miracle Minute."

With the intent of sending encouraging messages to a 16-year-old Leukemia patient named Kendra, students came out to make over 100 cards to send! As for the "Miracle Minute," students collectively raised over $1,600 to donate to pediatric cancer organizations!

With this only being the first service-learning project to come from Esperanza's Medical Academy for the 2021-2022 school year, we are all very excited to see what they are capable of achieving next!
2019 Christmas Caroling
Esperanza students from Mrs. Easton's MSA and Mr. Perez' Language Arts classes hit the streets caroling for the residents of Lake Park, a community for those who are 55 and older, to spread some holiday cheer. Students passed out candy canes and over 100 holiday cards made by EHS students at lunch time. They finished the evening with hot chocolate and desserts courtesy of the residents. It was a great night for everyone involved!
